How We Seamlessly Weave New Hardwood into Your Existing Floors During a Remodel

The Art of Lacing and Weaving

Instead of relying on ugly, raised transition strips to cover the gap between old and new floors, we use a technique called “lacing” or “weaving.”

We don’t just lay the new boards flat against the old ones in a straight, obvious line. Instead, we carefully cut back and remove select boards from the existing floor at staggered lengths. Then, we interlock the brand-new planks right into the empty pockets. The result? A continuous, staggered joint that completely hides where the old floor ends and the new floor begins. The seam is totally invisible.

Custom Color Matching

Fitting the boards together is only half the battle. The real craftsmanship comes down to the finish.

Hardwood floors change over time. Even if you buy the exact same species of wood, a brand-new plank is going to look vastly different from a floor that has been walked on and exposed to sunlight for ten years. To make the woven section blend flawlessly, we custom-mix our stains. We test and tweak the color on the new raw wood until it is an absolute dead ringer for the aged, sun-exposed patina of your original floors.
